PC+ and Deloitte’s Family Literacy Day Brings Smiles to All

On Friday, June 7th, Parent Child+ along with Deloitte volunteers hosted a Family Literacy Day at Variety Boys and Girls Club in Astoria. PC+ staff members were on hand to welcome the children and families who have participated in the home visiting program as well as other community members and their families. Everyone participated in a wide array of creative, art and crafts activities and were invited to explore and play while Deloitte volunteers supported the day’s events. In the afternoon, PC+ celebrated both children and their families as they graduated from the program and were presented with certificates to recognize this accomplishment. At the conclusion of the event, families were gifted several books to add to their child’s own home library with the goal of creating lifelong readers. It was a wonderful day for families to bond as PC+ honored staff and parents for the hard work they’ve done to help these amazing children become ready for school.

The PS 171Q school community looks forward to enrolling these families to attend Pre-K at the school, and to continue to support their academic success over the course of the next several years.
